Tooth Fairy Pockets and Printable Pattern

Two months ago my 5 year old firstborn informed me of a loose tooth. Not willing to admit that he is growing up -I ignored it and passed it on as some sort of tooth injury (as we have had many of them!). But another week went on and with some persistence of my first born (and a change of heart from me!) I checked it out for myself -and yes! The tooth is loose! It has yet to fall out -but now we are prepared to celebrate this rite of passage!

I sewed very simple pockets, using the Promise Colors Felt Collection. For the tooth, I took white felt, ironed on fusible webbing, traced the tooth pattern, cut, then ironed it on to the already sewed pocket. And that's it -done! Isn't that simple? I think these would look adorable outlined with basic embroidery stitches -and wanted to give you the opportunity to do that. Here is the pattern!

But I also have these all ready and available in my shop -also including a bit of fairy dust to make it all so magical. And there is still more! An opportunity for one reader to win one tooth fairy pocket by sharing your tooth stories! Loose teeth, lost teeth, and fairy stories -I want to hear them!

  3. Just like wildlywoolly I have no special story I remember, but I am too not willing to accept that my big girl is growing and the dentist told her that before the year ends she will be loosing one too (she can´t wait of course!) I think I´ll have to try your adorable pattern.
    Thanks!

  5. These are very cute! I don't have any tooth stories yet - in fact loose teeth and pulling teeth has always grossed me out a little bit - to the point where my mom would have to hold me down screaming and crying to pull out my loose teeth which I had let get so loose that they were pretty much only hanging on by a thread!

  6. My daughter had her first 2 teeth loose before she even turned 5 and lost them shortly after. I was so sad, but she felt so grown up. Very cute pockets!

  8. I was so scared when I lost my tooth for the first time! The worst part was that I was eating when it came out. I was totally horrified times ten! I thought I would never get over it. But I did!

  10. My mother used to use glitter fabric paint on coins as 'fairy' money from the tooth fairy. Though, one night I caught her sneaking in to swap out my tooth! I loved the tradition though so I didn't tell!

  11. When I was travelling in France, I learned that instead of a "tooth fairy", they have a small mouse who comes to visit when a child loses a tooth! But I forgot to ask what the little mouse does with the tooth because I was always told that the tooth fairy uses the teeth to build her special castle. Now as an adult, I think, ugg, a castly made of teeth, but it seemed romantic to me at the time.

  14. These are so cute! I tried my hand at making a tooth fairy pillow for my first born who lost his first "loose" tooth a few weeks ago....he even pulled it himself! But that wasn't his first lost tooth!....when he was 15 months old, he busted his face on a window seal at Deny's....The tooth was knocked up into his jaw...giving him a hairline fracture in the jawbone. We immediately rushed o the doctor (after getting our meal free at Deny's...lol) and within a few days he had his tooth surgically removed. What a trooper. No one ever really noticed the gap....now we're just waiting for his grown up tooth to fill it! :)

By the way...your pockets are soooo much cuter than my pillow! Great work!

  15. My daughter lost her two front bottom teeth, but the adult teeth were already coming in behind so she hasn't had a toothy grin at all yet! The same thing happened to me as a kid with those bottom teeth. Thanks for the giveaway. mybabyappleseed(at)yahoo(dot)ca

  16. Our Tooth Fairy is crazy!..and very inconsistant.

When my oldest daughther lost one of her first teeth, the Tooth Fairy almost forgot and was doing a late delivery in the morning. She thought she was asleep, but started to stir and wake up, as she entered the room. So the Tooth Fairy decided to put the money under her younger sister's pillow instead.

When she woke up, she was devistated the TF hadn't come. She came into my bedroom crying. I asked her if she was sure she hadn't come. She was sure. I asked if she had looked everywhere in the room. She thought she'd better look again. Soon the money was discovered under her younger sister's pillow and all was well.

When my kids were older, and were discussing whether the TF was real or not. They came to the conclusion that she was NOT real. From that point on, the Tooth Fairy stopped visiting. If they didn't believe in her, why should she visit?

When they started questioning the reality of Santa, I reminded them what happened with the TF and they quickly dropped the subject. :)

  18. So much fun. I love this simple and sweet idea. My favorite lost tooth happened while eating lime sherbet at a get together with family friends.

  19. Sorry... mine is long.

I used to work with college students at my last job and one of the boys named Carl told me his story. He had a tooth that he had just lost and was so excited to put it under his pillow that night. He lost it at school so he had to wait until he got home. He told his friends how the tooth fairy would be coming to his house that night, and would leave him some money. Well later on in the day, one of his friends STOLE his tooth. I guess he wanted the money. So Carl was heart broken. He didn't get to put his tooth under his pillow, and the tooth fairy never came.

This is where I come in.

I decided to gather about 3 dollars in quarters. I printed out a little letter with a picture of a fairy that I colored pink. I wrote in the not. "Dear Carl, I have been looking for you for a long time. You never got your money for the tooth you lost. That boy was very naughty for taking it. I am so glad I found you." Then I taped the coins into the note.

He was so excited. And it was fun to see him light up. I think people forget that kids aren't the only ones who light up for little things like the tooth fairy.

  21. Our middle daughter just lost her first tooth about 2 weeks ago and then lost her 2nd tooth just a few days later. She is now a "snaggle-tooth" on the bottom as she has no front teeth down there. She is all into the magic of The Tooth Fairy so this would be GREAT!

  22. The little girl I watch this summer just lost a tooth this morning at my house while brushing her teeth. I have all of my baby teeth still in a little baggie in my sock drawer.
